University of Kent

Managed Environments Showcase
University of Kent
The showcase aims to:

  • Be a focal point for collaboration in telecare and telehealth in particular for managed environments, such as domiciliary and residential care
  • To facilitate the implementation of innovation and telecare/telehealth projects
  • Be an interface between the Public, Private and Third Sectors
  • Provide a link to the University of Kent’s recognised evaluation pipeline for technology and services in this field
  • Foster interaction between the key interest groups (users, commissioners, businesses & research groups)
  • Build on existing best practice in the region by working in collaboration

The University of Kent has developed the ICE-T showcase as part of its collaboration with SEHTA to demonstrate the use of telecare and to showcase the benefits of action research. The University’s extensive technical and health expertise and facilities give the University of Kent the ability to deliver services and products that match the market’s demand for telecare and telehealth. The University of Kent draws from its connections to best practice, such as industry, the NHS, KCC and other health and social care partners and supports research into the effectiveness and efficiency of telecare with service users, carers and service providers.

The University of Kent recently launched KentHealth to promote collaborations in health research, and KentHealth works closely with the NHS and other key stakeholders. Furthermore, the University draws from the knowledge and experience of Kent County Council, which has a long history of piloting telecare as one of the three Whole System Demonstrator regions. Kent County Council has provided telecare and telehealth equipment used in the Whole System Demonstrator programme on loan to the University of Kent for demonstration and evaluation purposes, and this equipment has been incorporated into the ICE-T showcase.

The University of Kent’s strengths and collaborations with best practice are utilised to partner with businesses and care providers to develop innovative new telecare and telehealth technology.

ICE-T will provide support and seed funding to projects developing innovative telecare products and services and facilitate the formation of project consortia.
